Elle could not grasp the reality of what she did to Nessa. It was not until Elle pulled the lever on the thresher, did she realize that all we are is flesh, bone and water. Our skulls empty of thought, and our flesh empty of sin or passion. Before that first breath, we are innocent of the knowledge of good and evil. Thereafter awareness of unjust deeds fester until our tears offer no relief, and our empathy dissolves.
